Laughter-yoga (Hasyayoga) is a mind-body practice developed by an Indian physician, Dr. Madam Kataria, who in 1995 first started this social form of laughter. By conducting both breathing and laughing exercises he made the natural human act of laughing a real social program to be practiced to increase people' mental and physical well-being. The underlying concept of Laughter-yoga is based on scientific studies that have proven that for our body there is no difference between intentional and real laughter. One gets the
same physiological and psychological benefits, because "the mind does not bother that we're faking it". Have you ever heard the sentence "laughter is the best medicine"? Well, it's true. Not only has laughter numerous benefits on our social life by increasing our relational interactions, but it also contributes to our physical health: in fact laughter boosts our immune system, lowers stress hormones, decreases pain, relaxes muscles and even help preventing heart disease. 10-15 minutes of laughing every day are highly effective on our health.
If we think as children, we used to laugh way more than as adults. Why have we lost this habit? Why aren't we giving enough space, value & dignity to such a healthy habit? Let's laugh again! What are we waiting for?
